ABOUT THE COURSE
This beginners practical course teaches students how to use skills which can be applied to making a wide range of leather goods using only hand techniques. Students are encouraged to develop their own individual styles and are helped to experiment and explore the creative potential of leather. The leather has been veg-tanned which means it has been treated with vegetable matter such as bark or plant fibres as opposed to chemicals.
Students are welcome to bring their own simple pattern or design to engrave onto the pouch or a range of stencils will be available on the day to choose from. You will use high quality leather to produce their pouches. Our leather has been tanned the traditional way, using vegetables rather than modern chemical techniques
This course costs £45 per person, which includes all the materials you'll need to craft your own unique leather pouch. The course is suitable for anyone aged 16 or over.
ABOUT THE VENUE
Erddig lies right on the doorstep of Wrexham town, easily accessible off the A483.
We will be based inside Felin Puleston Outdoor Centre on the Erddig estate, which has it's own parking area.
The Erddig estate is home to Grade I listed gardens. Tours are given daily to visitors or you can freely explore the impressive walled garden, now restored to its 18th-century formal design. With rare fruit trees and a National Collection of Ivies, Erddig’s garden is a very special place.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
James has been practising leathercraft for over 10 years now creating historical reproductions for the re-enactment scene as well as giving demonstrations and workshops at events of all sizes from Glastonbury Festival to the local village market.
He mainly uses traditionally tanned leather but also works with up-cycling unwanted leather items into weird and wonderful creations.
James spends most of his time runing bushcraft activity days and Forest School for children of all ages. So, working with adults should be easy :-)
